“Find a Passion, make it a Profession, and you’ll never work another Day in your life!”

Pauline McArthur Soft Toy Designer Hi, I'm Pauline and I am a craft-a-holic... and proud of it!

I’ve been sewing and knitting toys and doll's clothes since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until my 30s (OK, mid-30s) that I made a conscious decision to try and make a living doing what I love. I'd worked in the optometry field for 18 years but what really fires me up is sewing soft toys!

So I took the advice of a quilting teacher who'd said, “Do what you love and the money will follow!”

I threw my heart and soul into designing my soft toy range. I tested the market at local craft markets, built up my confidence and finally had a beautiful website designed to sell my toys www.funkyfriendsfactory.com

Thank goodness I didn’t give up my day job because it soon became apparent to me that the books I’d read on web marketing weren’t kidding when they’d said, "A website without advertising is as good as having a store in the middle of desert!”

"Whether you think you Can or you Can't, you are usually Right." - Henry Ford.

I refused to give up! I felt I was headed down a one way path and no matter how long it took, I’d begun a journey that would bring me the freedom, happiness and fulfillment that I still hadn’t found in my 9-5 job. In my search for website promotion ideas I stumbled upon the idea of building a high traffic craft website for ‘mad crafters’ like myself, people with a burning passion to make a living doing what they love – crafting.

I felt sure I wasn’t alone, I couldn’t be the only person on the planet who couldn’t go a day without doing/making something crafty. I’d spent hours on the internet looking for new craft ideas myself, so creating a meeting point for craft-searchers and craft-producers seemed like a win-win situation to me.

“Your talents are God’s gift to you, what you do with them is your gift to Him.” – my mother!

I felt that this could be my way of 'putting a little back', oh and hopefully I’d sell a few patterns too and one day be able to give up the day job completely and craft off into the sunset.... I'll keep you posted!

Happy crafting
Pauline
